Victor Hugo Rodriguez
Founder / President and CEO

 

He is the Founder and CEO of LatAm Alternatives. Mr Rodriguez has over 19 years of experience in Management, Sales, Marketing and Business Development within the securities industry in the US-LatAm region.
He was Partner and Head of Latin American Prime Brokerage for Merlin Securities (Mid Tier Prime Broker) and Director of Global Institutional Sales at Trade Station Securities (Monex Group).
Before he worked as Director of Latin America for Terra Nova Trading (now LightSpeed Trading) and in the late 90’s he was the Founder President & CEO of Pristine.com Latin America.
He started his career at The Caracas Stock Exchange and was President & CEO of a mid tier local Broker Dealer.
He has been a live TV Economics News Anchor and is well known as the Founder and Former Head of The Hedge Fund Association (HFA) – LatAm Chapter. Mr Rodriguez was elected STA (Security Traders Association) National Board LatAm Advisor. He lives between NYC, South Florida and Latin America. He is married with 2 children.

Mike Felix
Senior Partner / CMO

 

Mike Felix brings over 25 years of experience in the capital markets.
Mike was Head of Marketing for TeraExchange, an independent startup Swaps Execution Facility (SEF) and was also Director of Global Marketing at Lime Brokerage, a leading technology-focused agency broker specializing in low-latency electronic trading.
Mike served as SVP, Director of Global Marketing for RealTick, a leading independent EMS trading technology provider and subsidiary of Lehman Brothers and subsequently Barclays Capital. Mike was also a cofounder of Hottrend, an algorithmic trading services provider acquired by RealTick and his other experience includes positions at KPMG Peat Marwick in the Czech Republic, Conoco Phillips in Venezuela and analyst positions at JP Morgan Chase.
Mike lives in New York and received his MBA from Harvard Business School, BA in Economics, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University where he was also elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

Alejandro Jose Rodriguez
Senior Partner

 

Mr. Rodriguez is a seasoned Cross-Border Financial and Banking expert that brings over 23 years of experience. Mr. Rodriguez is the Managing Director of Pushstone, a consulting firm that provides services to Banks and other Financial Institutions on AML/CFT Compliance, Regulatory Framework, Procedures & Operations and Correspondent Banking Relationships.
Mr Rodriguez was the Head of the Latam Division for Terra Nova Financial Group (now Lightspeed Financial, a division of Lime Brokerage) a broker dealer that offers electronic trading platforms for the purchase and sale of financial securities including equities, futures contracts, exchange-traded funds and options.
Mr Rodriguez served as the COO of the International Division for Pristine Capital Holdings INC (now T3 Live, LLC), an online trading school for traders and investors. He also performed activities as the Operations Manager for the Miami Branch of its broker dealer Pristine Securities LLC (DBA as Mastertrader).

Jose Abbo
Senior Partner

 

Mr. Abbo joined LatAm Alternatives in 2011 and has been with the company since the early beginning.
Among all his major achievements we are proud to announce that Mr. Abbo is The former CHAIRMAN and Director and CHAIRMAN of Panama’s Sovereign Wealth Fund (2012-2020)

He has authored numerous articles about the financial markets and the Global economy. He has researched and written for such well-recognized publications as The Economist Intelligence Unit and América Economía.
In 2000 Mr. Abbo published “Divisando Wall Street Desde el Sur de América” (a comprehensive guide for the Spanish-speaking community that explains the workings of the stock market).

He also wrote a second book called: “The Big Gamble Are You Investing or Speculating” (which teaches investors how to differentiate investments from speculation and gambling).

He makes regular guest appearances on various radio and television programs and has served as an expert witness in financial trials and forensic cases.
He was Managing Director Corporate Finance at SFC Investment Panama and before he was Vice President International Capital Markets at Credit Suisse Panamá.

Mr. Abbo holds a degree in Professional Management from Nova University and has served as an MBA tutor for Tecnológico de Monterrey/ Thunderbird University Panama-based Global MBA programs.
He is married with 4 children.

Ruben Cabrera
Senior Partner

 

 Before joining LatAm Alternatives LLC, Mr. Cabrera was The Head of Institutional Sales US Markets & Portfolio Manager at CM Capital Markets in Madrid, where he ran the program trading desk with an specialty in Pair Trading and L/S Equities Trading and CFD’s , previously was the founder and CEO at Bolsagest Global Investments where his team developed an Electronic Execution Management System and trading software pin Spanish for retail high frequency traders.
Mr Cabrera was Head of Trading at Pristine Capital Management and was responsible for the trading floors in Caracas, Santiago and Miami.
He is currently involved in digital transformation for the financial industry and governments, based between Miami and Madrid, and is an acting member of the Global Investment Committee for Private Equity and M&A activities in Spain, Central Europe, LatAm and Qatar.
He is married with 3 children.

Alan Gandelman
Senior Partner

 

Mr. Gandelman is widely acknowledged to be among the most preeminent financial executives in Latin America, as well as a seasoned expert in the global capital markets and trading in Latin America. Currently, Mr. Gandelman is the deputy CEO of Planner corretora de valores , a major broker dealer and wealth management house in Brazil, with arms in NY and Miami.

Previously to this Alan was The SVP of BGC , covering global markets out of Dubai and with a very strong presence in Latin America and its markets and also was Head of Sales at INTL FC Stone Brasil DTVM, a leader in the development of specialized financial services, and also serves on the board of ANCORD, Brazil’s National Association of Broker dealers.

Previously, Mr. Gandelman served as President at ATS Brasil, a joint venture between NYSE and ATG, and served as president at ICAP where he launched ICAP Brazil, which has subsequently become one of ICAP´s largest global revenue center. Earlier, Mr. Gandelman served as managing partner at Ágora, and held senior roles at both Bear Stearns and Goldman Sachs.

He was also a member of the Brazil-US Business Council, sat on Bovespa’s Board of Directors, and served as president of the International Affairs Commission.
Mr. Gandelman was also president of the Bovespa Futures Index Chamber and held a similar capacity at BM&FBovespa’s Equities and Equity Derivatives Chamber following the merger.

Eduardo Iturbe
Senior Partner / VP of Technology

 Mr. Iturbe is in charge of The LA Group¹s Technology Platform based on web services and oriented on Software as a service (SaaS) and before joining LatAm Alternatives LLC; Mr. Iturbe was an external consultant for several major Telecom Companies in Venezuela and Miami, where he assisted in Program Management areas as Data, Security and Storage Management.
From 2002 to 2012 Mr. Iturbe was VP of Technology at CSR Consulting Services, during his tenure in this position Mr. Iturbe was in charge of several framework validation projects across different ever-expanding databases, he was interested in expert systems to mimic unique data analysis using latest technologies to match patterns that delivered compelling results.
Since 2004 Mr. Iturbe has been affiliated with The Project Management Institute Venezuelan Chapter. Earlier in his career he was Program Manager at Motorola in Venezuela and Telecommunication Manager at World Tel-Fax Electronic.
Mr. Iturbe earned his degree in Electrical Engineering with an specialization in Telecommunications in 1994 from Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET) in Venezuela and other specializations in the same area. He lives between Miami, Bogota and Caracas where his wife and 2 kids are based.

Daniel Velasquez
Senior Partner / Head of Educational Services

 

Mr. Velásquez is Partner and Head of Educational Service and also, he is the founder and Coach at “Your Own CEO” which supports Latin American executives to achieve their professional goals through business coaching sessions.
Before joining The LatAm Alternatives Group Daniel was B2B Director for Latin America for ADEN Business School leading 24 branches in the region. Also, from 2008 to late 2013 Mr. Velásquez was Regional Manager for INCAE Business in Ecuador, Colombia, Panama and Venezuela.
His greatest passion is to teach and make consultancies in marketing, sales and strategy and to help people and companies achieve their goals. For this reason, he was volunteer in Young Entrepreneurs Volunteers Network – JA Nicaragua helping young entrepreneurs to make real their businesses ideas.
He was also member of INDE (Instituto Nicaragüense de Desarrollo) teaching courses and conferences in Business. Mr. Velasquez is from Colombia and while there, he thought marketing and strategy in Universidad Externado de Colombia and LaSalle College University.
Mr. Velasquez holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Universidad Externado de Colombia. Also, an MBA (master’s in business administration) from INCAE Business School with emphasis in Marketing.
He is an expert in conductive sales, digital marketing and Leadership Development. Daniel live between Latin America and Miami where he was relocated with his wife and two young children.

Leonard Lares Quintero
Partner / Head Graphic Design

 

Mr Lares Quintero is the Head Graphic Design a well-known Latin Graphic Designer who specializes also in brand identity system development. He has extensive experience in graphic design across The Latin American Region, working closely with major and important clients in different verticals.
His focus has been on concept ideation, logo development, typography, color palette, graphic language, photo style and video edition. Leonard design using a wide range of applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, 3ds max, Drawing, Design Graphic, Lettering and Creative Development.
He served as Art Director and partner at Zinaphia Creative and was the lead graphic designer/account manager at Aerolinea Creativa MX and Megainbound. Mr Lares Quintero received her BA in Graphic Design from the “Design Institute” in Caracas, Venezuela.

Urbi Garay
Professor – Coach

 

Urbi Garay received a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; a M.A. in International and Development Economics from Yale University, and a B.A in Economics from Universidad Católica Andres Bello (Caracas, Venezuela).
He is a Full Professor of Finance at IESA Business School (Caracas, Venezuela), where he teaches the following courses at the master’s level: Investments, Derivatives Products, Alternative Investments, Hedge Fund Strategies and Seminar in Finance.
Dr. Garay is also a Chaired Member of the Venezuelan Academy of Economics. He was a Visiting Researcher at the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets (CISDM) of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (2007-08), and has been a Visiting Professor at various business schools in the U.S., Europe and Latin America. Dr. Garay has been a consultant to CAIA (since 2008), the Inter-American Development Bank, the Venezuelan Central Bank and the Caracas Stock Exchange. He has been interviewed or quoted at CNN en Español, El Mundo, Clarin, La Nación, El Nacional, El Universal, and other media companies.
He is co-author of the books CAIA Level II: Advanced Core Topics in Alternative Investments (Wiley, 2009 and 2015), CAIA Workbooks Level I and II (CAIA, various years), Fundamentals of Finance (Ed. IESA, 2005, and six reprints), and Long Term Investing (Ed. IESA, 2007). He has published articles in The Journal of Alternative Investments, Emerging Markets Review, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, Econometrics, Corporate Governance: An International Review, Academia and the Journal of Business Research.

Michael Andrews

Michael Andrews is Founder and Managing Partner of Hawkstone Capital Group, a private investment firm with a ten-year track record of minority stake investments, majority stake acquisitions, deal structuring, due diligence and advisory services.
He comes from a strong operating background with broad experience across industrial manufacturing, industrial services, value-add distribution and cleantech companies.
His career has been spent navigating teams through high-stress situations (turnarounds, transitions & rapid expansions).
Roles he has filled include President, of a multi-billion-dollar division, and Head of M&A for a Fortune 500 company, CEO / Board positions with various private businesses and Managing Partner of a private investment firm he founded.
Hawkstone Capital Group is a private investment firm making operator led, majority stake acquisitions of privately held companies utilizing SPV style transactions. Hawkstone aligns discerning founder owners with operating executives, transitioning private companies to new private owners.
Andrews brings 25 years of experience in portfolio business management and mergers and acquisitions to his clients, where he holds various C-Level positions and Board roles.
Michael Andrews is the former Executive Vice President of General Cable Corporation, a Fortune 500 Company, and President of General Cable’s Energy and Infrastructure Group, a portfolio of nine businesses generating $1.4 billion in annual revenue.
He was part of the Senior Management Team that took General Cable from $1.45 Billion to $6.5 Billion in revenue and their stock from $3.00 to $80.00.
He also led mergers and acquisitions and global asset investment planning, closing several transactions in excess of $2 billion in annual revenue, including the acquisition of Phelps Dodge Wire and Cable, a company with operations in ten countries on four continents, and managing $80 million in annual capital expenditures respectively.
He has been a member of the Government Affairs Board of National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and an active speaker at energy, infrastructure and sustainability conferences sponsored by organizations such as Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, RBC, Sterne Agee and The Cleantech Group.
Andrews holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Operations and a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Marketing from the Carl H Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati.
